"After a successful career in makeup artistry, François Nars founded NARS in New York in 1994. Like many other cosmetics brands, NARS was created out of frustration at the lacklustre selection of cosmetics currently on sale. The first NARS range consisted of just 12 lipsticks, which sold so well that the NARS range was soon expanded to include both makeup and later, in 2002, skincare.

NARS cosmetics focus primarily on neutral shades, with an occasional splash of vibrancy thrown in. NARS cosmetics aren't afraid to be a little risqué either – one of the brand's bestselling highlighters, the Orgasm Blush, was released in 1999 and has since become a cult favourite. Today, the matte black packaging of NARS products is synonymous with the brand's simple, contemporary style.

Today, NARS cosmetics are iconic, having been worn by some of the world's most recognisable stars.
